Royal Days INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCE Festival
Székesfehérvár, Hungary
WELCOMER Since the beginning, from 1996, the main organizer of the Royal Days International Folk Dance Festival is the Alba Regia Dance Association. Our NGO takes every little step to ensure that who comes to us - our guests, audience, visitors, and friends - feel at home here, in Székesfehérvár, in the Dancehouse. We are good hosts, because our ensemble, the Alba Regia Dance Ensemble has travelled the world, we learned a lot from other festivals and we know, what they like, what the groups can bear and what attracts the audience. We clearly know that for those who have no chance the go abroad, these festivals like a trip around the world and finally, in 2024 the world is going to come to us again!
In the last few years, we would like to invite international teams to the festival, but our opportunities were limited. As we couldn’t travel further, also everybody had to think more carefully about what they undertook.
In August of 2024 let’s make an unbelievable festival together: we almost have one year to guess the details, but we only have one year to guess the details.
We are in a luckily situation, because for us it is easy to complete the needs, because 27 years of experiences stand behind us as well as our strong team, many volunteers, our dancers, and our student’s families.
What can you expect? Introductions on the main stage, colourful parades, gastro-folk nights in the Dancehouse, street dance and music events, evenings with full of life, hopefully good and warm weather, friendships and loves.
It won’t be different like you get used to it in the past years!
We are waiting for you!

For over 1000 years August has been a special time of year for Székesfehérvár. St. Stephen, founder of the Hungarian State, made the month of August a month of celebration as a tribute to Christianity. Although after his death and later canonization the religious celebrations continued, the festivity shortly became the celebration of St. Stephen himself.
The “Golden Charter” in 1222 –Europe’s second constitution – reinforced the importance of the occasion making it into a national holiday, St. Stephen’s memorial day. Thanks to Royal Days, Alba Regia (the latin name for Székesfehérvár) became the governmental centre of the Hungary.
Back in the old days, around 20th August the king visited Székesfehérvár, and during his visit held a reception learning about the matters of state. During his visit St. Stephen’s memorial day was also celebrated.
The former coronation town remembers its past through dance and music, while ensembles arriving from many countries around the world present their folk dances and music.
